What is ADAS Calibration?
ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) is technology incorporated into a vehicle in order to automate, adapt, and enhance the driver’s experience with features that increase safety. ADAS calibration (and recalibration) is the precise alignment of ADAS sensors following many situations such as windshield replacement, collisions, changes in suspension and vehicle alignment, and adjacent repair services. Calibration needs are vehicle-specific and require special equipment and training. With our in-shop, static calibrations at Top Notch Body Shop & Mechanic, we are able to achieve the very precise measurements necessary, in a controlled environment.

What Happens if an ADAS Sensor is Not Calibrated?
In the past, when a vehicle was involved in a front-end collision, a technician could simply repair the structural damage and move on. Now, it’s not so simple. If that vehicle has radar in the front bumper, it’s likely that the ADAS sensors were damaged and will need to be recalibrated for functional safety. With more vehicle autonomy than ever, drivers are relying on powerful technology to stay safe. If that technology isn’t repaired correctly, it could spell disaster. Driver assistance systems rely on sensor data collected by camera, lidar, radar, and other sensors located throughout the vehicle. What happens when ADAS sensors are moved and replaced, during windshield or bumper replacement?
